Recently, I have opportunity involve in warehouse management role.
It is very challenging
task. Not just because of new role, it is also new environment, and new team
work with. My main objective is upgrade current warehouse practice to WMS
(support with ERP system).
The most common reasons
for poor efficiency and quality in the warehouse, is lack of standardization.
Standardization the
process. We should standardization the process based on current warehouse common practice. Common practice is the practice follow the
common sense. Common sense is based on individual values and past experiences,
it is unique to all people.
Different people might
have different experience and it might create a different common sense.
Standardization, everyone
can understand the process and practice. Also, the information is transparent
and excess by everyone.
Talk about warehouse improvement,
people always is the most challenging part.
The easy stuff is to
make good looking signs and practice.
The tough part is to
communicate the importance to follow these practices and to follow up if the
personnel really do it.
Does warehouse personnel willing/ready
to change? Do they fit into new culture?
We can design the best
practice or process for warehouse operation.
We can have a lot of
man power involve for improvement project.
But the tough is
execution.
How best are your
leadership to lead the team for execution?
You might very good on
execution, but may not able to lead the team.
Work as warehouse
personnel, you much understand about communication and team work.
It is because warehouse
always works as team, and work for team.
